“Shoah”
is my attempt to transform tragedy into art. Over the course of twenty-eight
minutes, the listener is taken on a journey that begins on the streets of Eastern
Europe at the time of
Hitler’s rise to power and the placement of Jews into ghettos to the liberation
of a Nazi labor camp. “Shoah” combines an original symphonic score
with historical sound clips and ambient sound effects to immerse the listener
in the WWII environment as experienced by the Jews. Of course, no artistic representation
can ever truly communicate the horrors through which the Jews actually suffered,
but this is my way of helping the world to never forget.
